Hi QTs!

Apologies for my long-term, unannounced hiatus.  I haven’t had accessible 24/7 WI-FI access in order to maintain this tumblr but can say that I should be tumbling consistently again by April with new updates :)

I just want to holla at folks who rep & live in New York!  I will be in the city this weekend for the “Daring to Be Powerful” training with the Audre Lorde Project. 

Is anyone else from out of town attending?  I will be there with my homie Rogue Pinay and we are certainly looking forward to connecting with folx from the area too!

Please message if you’ll be at the training or if you wanna kick it afterwards or sometime during our stay.  I’ll be in the city til Monday. I’ll have my camera with me and look forward to filming short interviews and catching some cool ish.

Our Story

I am Tiara [the Merch Girl], an emerging performance artist and creative producer/production assistant based in Brisbane, Australia. I combine burlesque, circus, physical theatre, stagecraft, spoken word, improv, comedy, and various other means to tell stories about personal experiences and political issues. I’m passionate about diversity and representation, especially as a multiple minority - queer, female, cultural minority, migrant. Besides performing I also write a great deal (mostly online), co-present feminist radio show 4zzz Megaherzzz, and have presented on Australian television. Basically: If it looks interesting I sign up for it!

I have just been accepted for a 3-month residency in San Francisco, with CELLspace’s Project 2048. In this residency I will be exploring how gender, sexuality, and cultural heritage intersect (especially in my life story) and find out how people incorporate these issues in their performance and creative work. So many of my inspirations are based in San Francisco and it’s been a dream of mine to spend some time there for a little while. 

During the residency I also plan to intern and volunteer for various local organisations, as well as participate in performance events. I’ve just been offered an internship with Madison Youngat Femina Potens, to support the creation & curation of feminist erotica, as well as possibly an internship with the Center for Sex and Culture. I’m also quite keen to prepare a performance during my residency that can be presented at Kaleidoscope Cabaret, an event for burlesque performers of colour.

How EXCITING! 

There is another QAPI visibility project that I think y’all should know about :) It’s so exciting that there are similar projects happening. It needs to become a big fabulous collaboration!!

It’s called the Visibility Project. I’ve posted here an interview of Kit Yan, video created by Mia Nakano who is based in the Bay Area and Shawn Tamaribuchi in NYC.

Apologies for the two week or so hiatus.  I do, however, have new updates in store for you all this year! Thanks for following or stopping by this tumblr to see these beautiful individuals and watch and hear their stories.

Currently I have been on a mission to subtitle previous and future videos so that they may be more accessible for everyone! I hope that for future videos that those who choose to tell their stories in their native tongue can do so and I will subtitle those in English too. 

I am looking forward to a positive year, even through the challenges. Who else is a rabbit out there? :) On another note, I have recently joined with Rogue Pinay & Rafaela to form the ultimate genderqueerlyglitterfabulous band EVER!

support the QTAP project?

would y’all donate a few bucks to help me continue this awesome project? i’m trying to garner enough $ to buy some decent monolights or even a strobe and softbox. renting time at a photo studio just isn’t financially feasible for me these days.

i’d love to continue taking portraits of all the lovely QTAPI individuals out there but this project has been on hiatus since i haven’t had access to a studio.  all the folks you’ve been seein’ weekly are people i shot and filmed when i had access thru school.

holla! at me and let me know that you’d like to see this project keep goin’. in the meantime, i’m gonna look into paypal or some other trustworthy system where folx can donate safely. anyone have advice or suggestions on this/fundraising?
